Why ice forms at the air inlet of DL, DD and DJ coolers and how to solve it.

Many technicians encounter a recurring fault: ice cubes accumulate on the air inlet of the air cooler, not just on the internal blades. This phenomenon reduces the air flow, reduces the cooling capacity, and leads to continuous dripping in the refrigerated room. It should not be confused with normal frost in the switch.

The main reason is that the external humid air penetrates into the room. Whenever the door of the refrigerator is opened, warm and humid air will enter. If the humid air flows directly to the evaporator inlet, the water vapor will condense and freeze in the front grid.

The second factor is the poor location of the air cooler. If the equipment is installed very close to the entrance door of the camera, all moisture that enters when the door is opened will directly hit the entrance door grid. It is suggested that the minimum distance from common doors is 3 meters.

Another reason is that the temperature difference between the air blown by the evaporator and the indoor ambient air is too large. When the differential is greater than 8 C, it is beneficial to condense water on the cold outer surface of the equipment.

If the thawing cycle is not programmed correctly, only the internal fins are thawed, not the ice formed in the front grid. As time goes on, this layer of ice grows without being eliminated by the automatic melting cycle.

According to the statistics of xindacool, in 68% cases, the root of the problem is not the evaporator DL,DD or DJ itself, but the poor sealing of the door, the worn airbag or the excessive opening of the camera door.

The practical solution is to check and replace the damaged door leaves to reduce the infiltration of humid air. If the cooler is too close to the door, plastic curtains can be installed to limit the entry of moisture. In extreme cases, the equipment needs to be reinstalled.

Thawing parameters must be checked to ensure that the generated heat also reaches the entrance grid area. If the ice is already thick, it should be completely thawed manually instead of waiting for automatic circulation to solve it.

The ice at the inlet reduces the airflow of the evaporator, increases the condensation pressure of FNH, FNH,FNV,FNVT condensers, and increases the total energy consumption of the equipment.

FAQ
What is the main reason for the cooler inlet grid to freeze? Wet outdoor air enters the room, especially when the door is opened.
What is the minimum distance between the cooler and the camera door? Minimum 3 meters, in order to prevent humid air from directly affecting the air inlet.
Is the fault usually in the evaporator itself? No, 68% of cases are caused by poor sealing of doors and pots.
Is the automatic thawing cycle of grid thick ice effective? Usually not, it is necessary to run a complete manual thaw.
Will grid ice affect the external condenser? Yes, it reduces the air flow of evaporator and increases the condensation pressure of FNH, FNH,FNV,FNVT.

Key words: inlet grid ice, DL series air cooler, DD series air cooler, DJ series air cooler, wet air infiltration, cooling chamber door bubble, manual thawing, FNH condenser, FNV condenser, FNVT condenser.
