Frequent failures of drain pan and drain pipe of DL, DD and DJ evaporators and their consequences
Drain pan and drain circuit are often underestimated components in DL,DD and DJ evaporators. Poor design, installation or maintenance of this area will lead to water accumulation, ice, overflow and damage to the refrigeration room, even if the rest of the refrigeration equipment works normally.
The most common mistake is that the slope of the drain pan is insufficient. The tray should be tilted and aligned with the water outlet. If the slope is less than 2%, the molten water will not flow completely, but it will stagnate and freeze, forming ice blocks that block drainage.
Another very common problem is the lack of heating in the drainage pipe. In a low greenhouse, even after the thawing cycle, the water in the pipeline will freeze quickly. Ice blocked the pipe and water spilled from the tray onto the camera floor.
Many installers use pipes with too small a diameter. In a large evaporator, a large amount of water flow will be generated in a short time during thawing. Narrow pipes can cause temporary blockage and overflow even if there is no ice.
Waste: oxide scales, plastic particles, food residues and falling scales may accumulate in trays and pipes. Over time, they reduce the useful part of the drainage pipe. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out regular maintenance inspection.
When the water is not discharged well, ice will grow on the tray, reach the wings of the evaporator DL,DD or DJ and block the air passage. It reduces the ventilation, reduces the refrigeration capacity, and increases the workload of FNH, FNH,FNV,FNVT capacitors.
The overflow water on the floor of the room will bring the danger of slipping to the staff and damage the insulation layer of the floor. Wet heat insulation irreversibly loses its insulation performance and increases the heat loss of equipment.
Important: The drain pipe should not be completely sealed. Anti-backflow siphon must be installed to prevent cold air from passing through the pipeline and prevent external hot air from entering the refrigerator. The wrong siphon cancelled all the work of the drainage system.
According to xindacool's technical data, about 34% of evaporator maintenance interventions are related to drainage system problems, not refrigerant circuit failures.
FAQ
What is the minimum slope required for the evaporator drain pan? It is recommended to incline to the drainage hole by more than 2%.
Why is the drain pipe in the refrigerator blocked? Mainly due to the freezing of water, heat resistance is needed.
What role does the siphon play in the drainage line? Avoid air exchange between the inside of the cold room and the outside environment.
What if water overflows from the drain pan? It destroys the insulation of the soil, forms ice in the soil and reduces the performance of the evaporator.
What is the percentage of evaporator maintenance to the displacement? About 34% of maintenance visits are caused by such failures.
