How does the indoor air quality of cold storage affect the service life of DL, DD and DJ evaporators?
Not only temperature and humidity determine the duration of DL,DD or DJ evaporators. The pollutants in the air in the cold storage room are deposited on the fins and pipes of the heat exchanger, resulting in dirt, corrosion and gradually reducing its performance over time.
In meat, fish or dairy processing rooms, the air contains fat particles, protein and organic compounds. These deposits adhere to the cold fins of the evaporator. With each thawing cycle, they are humidified, which is beneficial to the occurrence of mold and corrosion process on aluminum and copper.
In facilities for storing vegetables, the air carries soil, plant dust and leaf residues. These particles accumulate between the fins, reducing the passage part of air. As time goes on, the evaporator loses its heat exchange ability, even if there is no visible frost.
Chemical vapors from cleaning products, disinfectants or some stored products are also aggressive. They can cause local corrosion on aluminum fins, resulting in pitting corrosion that eventually leads to coolant leakage.
A very effective measure is to install easy-to-clean air filters at the inlets of evaporators DL, DD and DJ. Filters should be inspected and cleaned regularly. If they are saturated with dirt, they themselves will become obstacles to air flow.
It is important to distinguish between outer surface cleaning and deep cleaning of wrapped wings. In the environment with high load of organic pollutants, neutral cleaners suitable for food industry must be used during the planned maintenance downtime.
If the evaporator degrades due to internal corrosion, the problem cannot be solved only by cleaning. Micro-leakage of coolant appears gradually, and it is difficult to locate in the early stage.
The accumulated dirt in the evaporator increases the resistance to air flow. Therefore, the compressor works harder, and the FNH, FNV and FNVT capacitors must discharge more heat, thus increasing the total energy consumption of the equipment.
