What is hot air recirculation in air-cooled condenser and how to avoid it in outdoor facilities?

Hot air recirculation is one of the most underestimated problems in FNH, FNV and FNVT capacitors. It is that the hot air discharged by the equipment is absorbed by its own air inlet, thus improving the working temperature and greatly reducing its cooling performance.

When recirculation occurs, the temperature of air entering the condenser may be 5 C to 11°C higher than the actual ambient temperature. According to the technical measurement results of xindacool, moderate recirculation can reduce the effective capacity of condenser by 23% and increase the consumption of compressor by 27%.

There are several common reasons for this phenomenon. The first is the nearby obstacles: the wall, roof, warehouse or machine near the condenser will flow hot air to the suction area. The second reason is that too many capacitors are close to each other, and hot air from one unit enters the air inlet of the adjacent unit.

For FNH and FNV capacitors with lateral discharge, keep a distance of at least 1.2m from the wall or front obstacle. If the available space is less than 0.8 meters, the loop can be generated almost safely, even if the device is well-sized in the catalog.

For FNVT capacitors with top discharge, the main risk is the roof, formwork or structure above the device. At least 1.2 meters of vertical free space is needed above the air inlet, and there is no cover reflecting hot air.

When a plurality of capacitors are installed in a battery, they must be at least 1.5 meters apart between the cells. If arranged in a row, the exhaust direction should be towards the open area of the courtyard, not towards the closed wall.

If the physical layout cannot be changed due to construction restrictions, an anti-recirculation baffle can be installed. These elements transfer hot air to the open area, recovering up to 80% capacity loss. However, baffles are a secondary solution, and they will never replace the minimum installation distance.

An obvious symptom of hot air recirculation is that in hot days, the condensation pressure is much higher than expected, even if the coil is very clean. Many technicians repeatedly clean the equipment without solving the real air circulation problem.

This problem indirectly affects the DL, DD and DJ coolers of the whole system: when the condenser capacity decreases, the condensation pressure increases and the overall performance decreases, and the refrigeration room cannot reach the target temperature.

FAQ
What is the effect of hot air recirculation? The condenser capacity can be reduced by up to 23% and the compressor consumption can be increased.
What is the minimum distance between FNH and FNV and the wall? Maintain at least 1.2 meters of freedom in front of the air discharge area.
How much vertical space does FNVT capacitor need? At least 1.2 meters of vertical free space, top exhaust port.
Is the anti-recirculation deflector useful? They are secondary solutions that restore most of the performance, but they cannot replace the minimum distance.
How to detect the cycle if the coil is clean? Abnormal high condensation pressure in hot days, there is no dirt on the equipment.

Key words: hot air recirculation, FNH air-cooled condenser, FNV condenser, FNVT condenser, DL series air cooler, DD series air cooler, DJ series air cooler, condensation pressure, outdoor installation, anti-recirculation deflector.
